Caring4Girls initiative – Keeping a girl child in school Programme
Founded in 2012, the annual Trek4Mandela Kilimanjaro Challenge is an initiative that aims to raise funds to ensure that 500 000 South African schoolgirls will not miss a day of school as a result of menstrual challenges.
The Trek4Mandela Kilimanjaro Challenge is carried out in support of Caring4Girls, an initiative established by Mr Richard Mabaso (Imbumba Foundation), which assists schoolgirls by providing sanitary towels and raising awareness relating to puberty and adolescence. Research has shown that a girl could miss up to 50 days per year as a result of menstrual challenges.
This year, I’ve decided to undertake this challenge. As a young man, I understood little of this plight that face so many South African schoolgirls as the subject was taboo for men. However, I feel awakened to how this issue touches on many social quandaries which plague our country, namely; women empowerment, poverty, health, education and basic dignity.
The aim of the Foundation is to drive home awareness of the Caring4Girls initiative to ensure accessibility to much needed sanitary products – a necessity and a right, not a luxury – together with hygiene education to ensure the growth and development of young South African schoolgirls into women with dignity.
In order to make this vision a reality, each individual climber needs to raise funds to cover the mountain fees and funds to support a minimum of 100 girls for 1 year. I’ve covered my mountain fee and the support of the 100 girls but decided to increase my support for them for 5 years. My target is thus to raise R150 000. I’ll be running multiple initiatives to collect donations towards this target. Please be on the lookout for these.
I would appreciate your support for this special initiative on this, the centenary year of Nelson Mandela’s birth. Donations can be made directly into the bank account of Imbumba Foundation as per the details below.
Let me take this opportunity to thank you for your support. Remember, every little bit counts.
